I don’t think I’ve done one of these since I closed the doors on Little Bitty City One, but I’m currently SUPER happy with my winter skincare/ makeup routine so I figured I would take a post to share what I’m doing with it.
I’ve been obsessed with washing my face since I hit puberty and my face turned into an oil slick. What I didn’t know at the time was Stridex or whatever nonsense I was using was actually drying my skin, which in turn, made it produce more oil. Endless cycle of acne and pain. My cousin worked for Bobbi Brown for a while, and when he told me it was like lightbulb– no more harsh, drying wipes for me. I use Yes to Coconut Cleansing Wipes before bed or when I’m getting ready in the morning, depending on when I take my shower. I love the smell and they definitely don’t dry me out. If I’m washing my face in the shower, I use Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash. It combines the antiseptic benefits of tea tree oil with awapuhi and Swiss chamomile to improve skin texture. My one complaint is that it comes out of the bottle quite watery, but it does produce a nice lather in your hands.
Face clean and ready to go, I recently switched out my drugstore moisturizer for Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil. Inspired by Grace’s post about her favorite face oils, and without doing any other research, I ran to Whole Foods and picked my favorite scent of essential oil. Thank goodness for my former roommate stepping in and letting me know that I was actually putting my skin in danger. To Amazon I went- and by far Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil was the most highly rated for use on the face. I have to tell you, I have never seen my face improve more quickly or drastically. I get cystic acne around my chin during my period that takes almost the full month to go away before it comes back again- completely cleared up! Blackheads on my nose- GONE! I swear this stuff is a miracle.
(The oil that I was originally putting on my face, NOW Cheer Up Buttercup Oil Blend, I dab behind my ears for a little uplift on these cold, dreary mornings. Make sure you do your own research before changing up your skin routine!)
I kind of fluctuate in how much (if any) makeup I wear, but I usually don’t leave the house with a little bit of something on my face. Right now, that’s L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream Anti-Redness. It’s kind of cool- comes out of the tube green and turns into a “universal” shade as you put it on your face. I’m not sure how they can call it universal, but it works well enough for me and, most importantly, I like the way it feels. I know I should be using something with an SPF, so once I run out of this tube, I’ll switch that up. If I’m shooting for my blog or going out, I’ve also been using Origins Stay Tuned Balancing face makeup. Honestly, I prefer what I was using before- MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation (the coverage is better), but the Origins is totally fine until I run out.
I always set my foundation with bronzer. Not sure if that’s actually a thing, but it’s my routine. NYX Professional Makeup Matte Bronzer is exactly what it sounds like- the perfect matte bronzer- and it doesn’t make me orange! And if you’re totally clueless about highlighting, I have a trick! Thanks to Dani, I ditched the highlight/ contour stick I was using (poorly- I had no idea what I was doing) and just swipe WET N WILD To Reflect Shimmer Palette in Boozy Brunch above my cheekbone and on the tip of my nose. It just gives me a nice glow. I finish with e.l.f. Blush in Tickled Pink and a coat of Rimmel London ScandalEyes Retroglam Mascara. It’s of the best mascaras I’ve used- my mom even asked if I was wearing false lashes! Maybe a swipe of a shimmery brown eye shadow. Done.
What are you using on your face right now? I’d especially love to know about makeup with SPF in it!
