Kendall and I rarely watch any actual TV (whatup Netflix), but I was vaguely aware that this past Sunday was Mickey’s 90th Spectacular. What’s kind of cool about Mickey Mouse is that he’s an icon that can never die. He’s recognized around the world as the face of Disney and for good reason.
I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.
Walt Disney truly built an empire on the coattails of his creation, and regardless of what you think about Disney or Disney fans, you have to respect that Imagineering. Mickey is truly timeless. My cousin, who is 18 or so years older than I am, went to Disney on Ice with my dad as a little kid. She loved “Mickey Mo” enough to jump onto the ice to get closer to him. That’s the same Mickey who’s “house” I was so excited to visit on my first trip to Disney World in second grade.
Minnie mouse is an extension of Mickey, by all accounts. She debuted at the same time as Mickey and they’re often together as walk-around characters at the theme parks. They’re a set!
Minnie’s style is as iconic at the mouse herself. Polka dots are classic, as is the silhouette of her ensemble. For the 90th celebration, she even had a dressed designed by Diane von Furstenberg, in her standard red, black, and white color pallet.
I’ve been Minnie for a Halloween or two, and I even have the perfect Minnie Mouse dress. Not that I’ve ever actually “DisneyBounded” before, but Minnie’s a great one.
How would you Minnie Mouse?
