Ever since I can remember, I wanted my wedding to be navy and yellow with a small pop of blush as a nod to cherry blossoms. Ask my Phi Sig Big, Lauren, she’ll tell you. Blue and gold were my grade school colors and my sorority colors and I’ve just always loved the combo. I was going to have nothing but daffodils and daisies and my bridesmaids were going to wear yellow baby doll dresses with cowboy boots or navy Vans.
But then I graduated from college, realized that almost nobody looks good in yellow (or baby doll dresses for that matter), and that I wasn’t (and never wanted to be) getting married on a farm so why would they be wearing boots?
As we were planning our wedding, I let go of even more yellow. I wanted an all-daffodil bouquet. It turns out, as per my florist, that not only would it be expecting a lot out of my daffodils to look good throughout the day, but daffodils are very sticky. I loved the way out flowers turned out- kind of like they were picked from the perfect colorful garden, so I’m glad she educated me… and that I’m not a bridezilla who insisted on something that would not have turned out well.
It also turned out that Kendall is not a fan of yellow, same as my mom. So my vision of navy and yellow with pops of blush turned into navy and blush with hints of yellow. Zero complaints here as we segue into the fact that navy and blush (or rose gold if we’re feeling fancy) is another one of my favorite color combos.
In my humble opinion, navy is more versatile than black. Some old-school etiquette advises, for example, that black is not an appropriate color for a wedding. While I don’t agree with this, I don’t think navy is ever in question. Add a little blush in there, you have a classy, feminine combo without being overly girly. I think if I absolutely had to do a capsule wardrobe, it would be blush, grey, black, and navy.
