This post may seem completely random but I have two life hacks I want to share with you. Originally, it was going to be called “lazy girl life hacks,” but seeing that there are only two hacks at the moment that seemed like overkill. These are two little tricks I have for keeping my life, budget, and health on the right track, and although they probably don’t seem related, they’re tips that affect my day-to-day, well, daily!

Avocado toast

Like any good millennial princess, I love me some avo toast. But, let’s be real, the stuff is marked up ridiculously and I have champs taste on a sparkling cider budget. I have found a way around this and the best way to eat a healthy breakfast rather than grabbing a bacon, egg, and chez from Dunks.

This started at my law firm. A friend of mine in accounting was on a pretty strict diet with from her trainer and she was eating egg whites and half an avocado for breakfast. She took to giving me the other half of the avocado and I started bringing in hard boiled eggs. But then I discovered Wholly Guacamole cups. This meant no more struggling with the two minute window we have for the perfect avocado, this meant perfectly sized portions. This meant more flavor!

As for the eggs- the whole peeling situation is a thing of the past because Egglettes exist. You crack the egg into the Egglette after lightly spraying with oil, cook to your liking, and it’s ready to go! I make mine 4 at a time and bring them in a Tupperware container with me to work. I keep bagel thins and my guac on hand at the office so it’s a healthy, easy, inexpensive breakfast. And filling! Yesterday I wasn’t even thinking about lunch until after two pm! I find I actually crave it over the junk. In winter, I sometimes swap the bagel thins for grits to warm me up.

(This whole thing works with peanut butter and bananas too if you’re more of a sweets kind of girl. Or strawberries and Nutella. And now I’m in the mood for snack.)

Subscribe & Save Mascara

Ok so this hack can go for just about anything from Amazon’s Subscribe & Save feature. If you’re unfamiliar, this just means if you have something you need regularly- let’s say dish soap– you can set it up so it comes as often as you need, while saving you %5-%15. You can set it up for delivery in increments of 1-6 months. It might not seem like much of a save but you also get the piece of mind that you won’t run out of an essential. The only tricky bit for me is judging how often you need The Thing so, like, we’ve ended up with entirely too much laundry detergent, etc.

BUT.

Here’s the thing with the mascara. The rule of thumb is you should throw out your mascara every 3 months or so. I used to an alert in my phone calendar to remind me to trash the tube but then my alarm would go off and I’d forget to buy new mascara and keep using the old stuff and the calendar alert would be rendered useless. My sensitive-ass peepers were being done no favors. But then Rox recommended L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara and when I saw I could get it Subscribe & Save, a little light bulb went off. I’d have a reminder to toss my old mascara AND a new one at my fingertips when it comes in the mail. No excuses, safe eyes, and a present to myself. Winwinwin.

What little tips do you have to keep your day/ life moving smoothly?
