I have this very distinct memory of coffee hour after church one very hot summer day. In the summer, it was lemonade outside in the garden. My church had a ton of kids at the time (we do again now, too) and we were all in our summer Sunday best. One of the moms complimented all of us on our “ice cream colors” and that has stuck with me. Pinks and periwinkles and aquas… cool and fresh.
The older I get, the more particular I’ve become about what colors I wear. I used to wear a lot of mint green, in fact there was one summer where that was all I would wear, but I can’t really do that anymore. Blushes have to be on the warmer side (think more nude than PINK). Yellows are basically out. Jewel tones and rich autumn colors work the best for me. But I still love a good pastel.
The fact that it is about 60 degrees today has me craving spring. I mean, what happened to all of the snow we were supposed to get this year? I’m now over winter and am ready for all the ice cream colors. If you’re interested in learning a bit more about pastel trends through the ages, check out this post.
