My girl friends know that I neh-ver tire of talking weddings so I’ve had a few bounce ideas off me for their own. Recently, I was asked about the “something blue” tradition and suggestions of how to subtly add that into a wedding day look.

I was actually curious about where this tradition came from. The Knot has a pretty decent explanation of why brides adorn themselves with these good luck charms here. While I am a total fan of poo-pooing any tradition that will not make you the happiest bride, I think this is a fun one that, if you want it to be, can be totally private to you and/ or your groom and/ or your family. Plus, finding your somethings can be just as personal as finding the dress- it’s up to your taste and can be as creative, or traditional, as you’d like it to be!

For the record, I chose rose gold jewelry with blue gems for my own something blue! Our wedding was navy and rose gold and that made the most sense to me. My something old was a bit of my sister’s baby pillow sewn into my dress, something new was, well, the dress. And my something borrowed was my mom’s wedding band. Totally apropos because we got married two days before my parents’ 30th anniversary and the something borrowed is usually a token from another happy couple. I also had a sixpence- brought over special from the UK by my Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Jay.

BONUS: My MOH had her new monogram new monogram embroidered in blue on an applique to sew into her dress. (This isn’t it exactly, but I think this version is SO sweet!) I thought this was the CUTEST idea. Ultimately, this is what my friend who asked for a suggestion ended up doing.
