Grow Your Hair

If you really love short hair, then go ahead and ignore this but if you want to have as many options open to you as possible, and the chance of recreating some of those beautiful bridal hairstyles that you see on Pinterest and Instagram, then it makes sense to grow your hair, because the more hair you have to play with, the more styles you can recreate, and the easier it will be for you to get extensions if you have your heart set on a hairstyle that will only work on a thick mane of hair!

Keep Makeup as Natural as Possible

Fads and fashions in makeup change just as much as they do in fashion, so on your big day, you’re probably going to want to keep things as natural as possible in that department, so that when you look back on the photos, you don’t cringe at what you see. Of course, if you have a signature look that you always wear, such as a retro 50s eyeliner flick or whatever, then go ahead and recreate it on your wedding day, but otherwise, you should be looking to use as little makeup as possible to enhance your natural look, rather than going too heavy or creating a look that you won’t look back fondly upon.

Waterproof Mascara is a Must

Weddings are emotional affairs, and that is never more the case than when it is your own wedding. That means, there’s a good chance you’ll cry at some point in the proceedings. I know I’ll be in tears most of my day myself. I know it. My friends know it. If When that happens, you don’t want to end up with panda eyes, so always apply waterproof mascara – in fact, apply as much waterproof makeup as you can – to ensure that you remain as beautiful as ever and that your wedding photos aren’t ruined. I mean, you can’t exactly walk out on the ceremony to touch up your makeup now, can you?

Airbrush to Make it Stick

Although you will want your bridal makeup to be as natural looking as possible, it’s fair to say that you’ll want it to last throughout the day and into the night. So, you may want to think about using the airbrush technique for your foundation and blush at least. Not only will it ensure that your makeup lasts upwards of 15 hours, but providing you use a silicon-based foundation, it will also give you the natural radiance, not to mention full coverage, that you require to look every bit the beautiful, blushing bride.

Set It

Another way of making your bridal makeup last longer is by using a setting spray. Put this on before you head out to your bridal transport, and use it sparingly and it will set your makeup in place without making it heavier. Whether you sweat, cry or brush upon your groom’s collar, your face will stay in place, and people will be left wondering how you can look so flawless.

Prepare the T-Zone

If you want to look absolutely flawless on the big day and your all-important wedding photographs, then have your makeup artist pay more attention to your T-zone, which as I’m sure you will know, can get pretty shiny, especially when you’re nervous. Applying a light powder to this area, and touching it up whenever you have a few moments throughout the day will keep things in check with a minimal amount of intervention and you will look amazing.

Have a Trial Run

Whether it’s with your hairdresser or makeup artist, you should always have a trial run of your chosen wedding style. You may find that those tight curls you’ve decided on make you look harsher or that the color of eye shadow you’re interested in makes you look older, and you want to find that stuff out BEFORE the big day, not in the hours before your wedding when you will have little opportunity to correct it! Of course, you’ll also want to ensure that your makeup artists and hairdresser are actually good at what they do. I used my MUA for my engagement photos and my hair stylist for my bridal shower. Killed two bird with one stone!

Oh, while we’re on the subject of trial runs, be sure to take some photographs of yourself during the process because, sometimes, makeup that looks fine in the flesh can look bad in photographs, and it can be quite upsetting to see pictures of yourself looking much different to how you wanted to and thought you did post-wedding.

Bear these important wedding day beauty tips in mind when you’re planning your bridal look, and you’ll be just fine!
