I have a confession- IÂ didn’t watch the President Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday. This isn’t because I wasn’t elated for him to be sworn in, but the anxiety I had around the event just seemed like too much after the domestic terrorist attacks on the Capitol. I was just kind of holding my breath hoping that the day would go off safely. Luckily, it did, thank God! And I can catch the big moments and concert on Hulu!
But just because I didn’t watch the live footage doesn’t mean I didn’t follow along on social media. I’ve started really imposing time limits on myself for Twitter and Instagram, but it was nice to catch bits and pieces of this historical event in real-time.
Being interested in fashion and style, I DEFINATELY took note of the gorgeous monochromatic jewel tones worn by some of the most powerful women in the country. Say it with me y’all…
fashion is political.
One of the most meaningful looks was Vice President Kamala Harris’ purple dress and purple coat. Not only is purple a color associated with nobility, but did you know that it was also the original color favored by suffragettes before they were associated with white? What a powerful and beautiful statement.
And I can’t confirm this (let me know if you can!) but I saw that Naomi, Finnegan, and Natalie wore Neapolitan ice cream colors in honor of their Pop-pop. How sweet is that? Even if it’s not true, they, along with their sister and cousin, respectively, Maisy, were serving totally amazing looks.
I think we have a fashion moment on our hands, so I rounded up a bunch of coats in bold candy and jewel tones if you want to create your own powerful statement.
