Working from home, and the quarantine in general, has been a bit of a roller coaster. My first week was basically a wash. I was a wreck. Then there were a couple weeks where I was super routined. Since we’re now going on a month, I feel like I’m leaning into a little bit more, while also being forgiving to myself.
Monday was a super weird day for me, emotionally. I actually had a fair amount of work to do, but was almost manic about it. I didn’t leave my office (Candace’s room) almost all day, including to eat. I couldn’t get my heart to slow down. There wasn’t anything with work that set me off, I just felt bad.
Tuesday, I woke up, skipped breakfast, but took a shower. I got dressed, but in my softest leggings and a stolen Tau Kappa Epsilon sweatshirt. That is what I needed to do to take care of myself that day. I felt a lot better than I did on Monday, but still not completely right. Because, frankly, nothing feels completely right.
We need to, especially now, be gentle-not only with other people, but with ourselves. We’re spending a lot of time in our homes, and our homes have become our offices, gyms, restaurants… our whole lives have come home. I am so lucky to be able to work in Candace’s room, and I’ve made it not only my cozy office, but a sitting room as well. I’m spending as little time in my bedroom as possible to better help me sleep at night.
I’m actually so lucky that my parents and I have room to spread out and work, since we’re all working. My mom has taken over the kitchen, my dad has his office, and I’ve turned Candace’s room into my own cozy space. If you’re working from home, what little things have you used to make your office space your own? And what things are keeping you cozy?
