Believe it or not, smiling has been voted one of the most attractive features of a person time and time again, in both men and women. It’s something that doesn’t cost you anything to do, it’s gesture can make someone’s day, and it feels good to do – so why aren’t more of us smiling out there?

One of the biggest reasons is down to your teeth. Are you confident enough to show them off? Or is the reason you’re not smiling because you’re trying to hide something?

Smile quote

If for whatever reason you’re not happy with how your smile looks, it can have a huge impact on your self-esteem. You may talk with your hand in front of your mouth, or force your lips shut when you laugh – this isn’t something that you should just grin and bear (pun intended.)

There are plenty of options out there that you can do to improve your smile. – Here are just a few.

Brush twice a day

An obvious that everyone should be doing. Brush when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to bed at night. Gently brush every tooth and the gum above it (and your tongue!) This will help not only brush away anything that has been left in your mouth from the day, but it will also get rid of the bacteria that prevents your breath from smelling. Just don’t over brush, as this will eventually remove your enamel, and you don’t want that to happen.

Teeth whitening

If your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like them, whether that be down to years of smoking, illness, or you just got unfortunate, there are many different ways you can whiten your teeth. There are whitening toothpastes out there, whitening strips to leave on for thirty minutes or so, home whitening kits including a special light mouth guard, or going to a certified dentist who does it with a high powered laser. What you go for is down to you and what you think you need, so do the necessary research and talk to your dentist for advice on what they suggest.

Teeth alignment

You may find that you have slightly uneven teeth. One may be growing in front of the other, or pushing it to one side. If you want to fix crooked teeth, you’re best speaking to your dentist first. You may be given a retainer to wear, that over time, will have your teeth all growing in the right direction. Or they may suggest you just remove the tooth (depending on the area it is in) and replace it with a false one.

Luscious lips

Remember, a good smile isn’t all about the teeth you know? It’s just as important to focus on someone’s lips – so make sure they’re looking good. You can do this by exfoliating them once a week to remove any dry, dead skin, and then smother them up with a good lip conditioning balm to keep them hydrated. Then choose your weapon of lip product, whether this be a gloss, a bold sheen, or a nude matte.

Now you’re ready. So smile!
