I actually didn’t know what a la mode meant until I saw the below scene from Little Miss Sunshine:

For a very long time, fashion has been one of the broadest and largest of humanity’s creations. All over the world, from the largest cities to the smallest villages, people care about the way they dress. Of course, though, fashion is much more than just the clothing you wear. In fact, there are loads of other areas you should be considering if you want to reach the tippity top of the ladder.

Of the fashion. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that fashion doesn’t just cover clothes. It extends to just about every area of life where we have a choice.

Your Home

To begin, it’s important to think about your home. In most places, there are some areas to live which are much more desirable than others, and it isn’t just because of their value. A place can become fashionable simply because people like the way buildings have been built or because of the local shopping in the area. This doesn’t mean that it’s easy to choose the right options for you, though, and you’ll have to move to take full advantage of this.

If you’re not prepared to move, you still have some options to help you along the way. Interior design is just like clothing, and the most popular styles and themes will change all the time, making it hard for a lot of people to stay on top. To avoid this sort of issue, using sites like Pinterest can give you a good idea of what is popular when you’re decorating. Don’t just consider the styles which are popular, though, as these might disappear very quickly; think about options which have been around for awhile, and don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Your Belongings

Getting your house in order is just one of the steps you can take towards a more fashion-oriented you. Along with this, though, a lot of people will like to think about their other possessions, too. A product like a car, for example, can easily be unfashionable, especially if it comes from the wrong manufacturer. Along with this, phones, computers, and other electronic devices can also be chosen with style in mind. It’s important to consider functionality at the same time with something like this. But, in most cases, the options available will all have the same capabilities.

Your Other Half

I got lucky in that my Kendall is keenly aware of his style, but I know that not all guys are into clothes and looking sharp as he is. (We actually got a sweet compliment from our wedding photographer about our style together.) By looking through this site and that, you will be able to gather loads of helpful resources as you’re styling your sweetie. Tip though: just because you like something doesn’t mean he will. Kendall will never wear a floral, and I just have to get over that because I don’t want to change him… I just want to shop for him!

Your Lifestyle

Finally, it’s time to think about the way that you live your life, along with some of the areas you shouldn’t change based on fashion. In recent years, one of the biggest fashion trends to hit the world has been fitness. Nowadays, more than ever, people want to be fit and healthy. Embracing trends like this is a great way to improve your life, while also doing something for your social standing. Of course, though, you shouldn’t do things simply because they’re fashionable, and there are loads of areas you should avoid following others in.

Politics is a great example of an area like this. In the modern world, social networks and other forms of media make it very easy to keep up with the world of politics. But, unfortunately, they can also make it a lot harder to know if you’re getting the facts. Along with politics, any other major life-changing decision should never be made based on other users of the internet. If you need to get your hands on information like this, it’s best to leave it to professionals to give it to you. Blogs are a great resource, and so are businesses working in the field you’re interested in.

Hopefully, this post inspires you to start working harder on fashion in all of the areas of your life. Not a lot of people look at fashion or trends in this way. Instead, they will only consider their clothing, ignoring some of the more important parts of life. Of course, though, fashion is for those that want it, and you only have to take it as far as you want to.

Happy late summer fall Friday! My friends seem pretty split on the team summer/ team fall situation, but I know I for one and thrilled that I got to bust out my boots yesterday when it was below 60 as I got dressed for work. Plans this weekend include lunch at the Cathedral and maybe a nap?

My thoughts are with Florida this week. I grew up going back and forth a few times a year and have family and close family friends in both south Florida and the Keys. Please be safe, everyone!

Lately on The CaroLøve:

I found a really nifty app called Acorns for micro-investing that essentially lets you set it and forget it by investing spare change from purchases you’re already making. I honestly have no idea how to invest, but would like to learn (and save up for a down payment on a house), so this app seems just about right for me. I’ve read a ton of reviews, and it seems as though the one downside is a $12 annual fee for accounts under $5000. The best review I’ve seen about it is on Budgets are Sexy as it lays out all the pros and cons. Because of the nature of my new job, I’m waiting for approval to finish my signing up process, but I’d love to know if you’ve ever used it! If you’re interested in trying it out, you can use my link and get an automatic $5 with your first investment!

I’m all about shopping local and I’m so excited that Shop Made in DC is going to be a thing come October!

I really, really love trains, probably because my cool af grandfather collected models and took me on an overnight train trip when I was little. There’s a train trip in Canada I want to take with massive windows and NO WIFI so you can enjoy the sights of the country and the stars at night. SO DOWN.

As much as I sometimes get down on myself and my shape, I truly believe that fashion has no size.

There are really only so many ways you can arrange a one-bedroom apartment, but when I get that home, I’ll be taking note of these 14 Things Designers Notice the First Time They Enter Your Home.

Do you have this bootie (or one similar) in your shoe arsenal?

WOOHOO! New arrivals from Stella & Dot are here!

The boots from my Instagram story last night are still on sale at Macy’s for under $100! I’ve discovered that I need wide-calf boots and these could not fit/ feel better than they do!

Have a great weekend! Let me know what you’re getting up to!

Good morning and happy Friday! I’m settling into my new position so please be patient with me as I get into a routine and figure out where blogging fits in now. This week was also big in that Kendall’s mom was up from Mississippi and we got to show her our reception venue. I swear, the Mayflower is not only gorgeous but they have an amazing staff who bent over backwards to take care of us.

Wedding things have been kicking into high gear and I’m getting more and more excited every day. I’m considering doing a post on all the vendors I’ve come across that have made life easier, but in the meantime, ~*gold star*~ of the week goes to Minted for their address assistant. Seeing addresses from my friends roll in has been SO MUCH FUN! Our save the dates are custom from a local woman, but our invites will also be from Minted.

Big props to my girl Alyssa of Naturally Me for accomplishing a huge personal/ career goal. Go check it out for yourself!

We The Kings released a new version of their song Stay Young with a very special guest vocalist. And tell me if I’m crazy but does Travis sound like Michael Jackson a bit?

I’m super into energy and cultivating the type of energy you want to surround yourself with. We’ve all heard of spring cleaning, but maybe a little 2/3 of the way done with summer refresh will be good for you and your home. via Town & Country

I have been exploring more of the south since meeting my Mississippi man, especially falling in love with Savannah + New Orleans. I have to try to visit these 20 Places Every Southerner Should See Before They Die. via Town & Country

Chicken is the first thing I learned to cook for myself… well maybe besides eggs. But this Everything Bagel Chicken takes it to the next level. via Kitchn

I’m partial top OPI gel manicures in shades of light pink, but I am LOVING this back to school Crayola mani. via Smart School House

There is such a thing as Arsen Cat and I love him. (Doesn’t hurt that he looks SO MUCH like my former Catmate, Puck.)

Last but definitely not least (I wanted to end on this and separate it a little bit from my other links + sales) -I don’t think anyone is ever prepared to find out that they have cancer, but one young woman I know is facing it head on and with such a positive outlook. I am truly inspired by Rachel, and I urge you to check out her blog~ especially the I Want to Help link.

Have a great weekend!

My mom retired a couple of weeks ago after about 40 years of teaching. That means that she had a classroom to clean out and 40 years of stuff to go through. Most of it was given away, but she packed up her books to read with her future grand kids, and I ended up inheriting a great little shelf from her classroom that works perfectly in our entryway.

While I haven’t quite filled the shelf (I’ll document it when it’s all done and cute and up to my standards), I immediately knew that one of my Fresh Wave candles would be right on top. Although Pride Rock may not always be the tidiest of homes, I pride myself on it feeling fresh, so it would make sense that I put a candle to greet anyone who walks in the door. The Fresh Wave soy-based Candle is perfect for removing odors caused by cooking- and our kitchen is the first room you see when you walk into our apartment.

Keep in mind that Fresh Wave natural odor removing products use simple, pure and natural ingredients—water and a proprietary blend including natural extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove and cedar wood. There is a light fragrance to the candle, but without a perfume! We also keep the odor removing gel under our sink to help get rid of some pesky kitchen odors.

Since I’m still trying to figure out how the heck else to decorate our “entry shelf” (???) I’d love some comments below if you have something similar. How did you set yours up?

At around this time every year, there are countless businesses keen to remind you of the existence of “Blue Monday.” It’s the day when we are far enough away from payday to have no money in our bank accounts. The Christmas holidays are but a distant memory, the decorations have come down, and everything looks grim.

One seasonal phenomenon that is very real is SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This time of year with its longer nights and shorter days affects many of us negatively. Spring is not a million miles away, but right now it feels like it is. So what do you do to feel like it’s a bit closer?

Book A Holiday

Yes, even knowing what we know about their dastardly scheme, holiday companies are onto something. A short break in the early part of the year can be beneficial. It cuts right into the seemingly endless period of long work hours. When you start in the morning while it’s still dark, and end in the evening (and it’s dark again), it’s enough to make anyone feel down. So take a short break somewhere sunny.

If you don’t have the money available, look around for possessions you can bear to part with. It’s surely better to sell Rolex watches or unwanted Christmas gifts than run up a credit card bill.

Develop A Nesting Instinct

Something often experienced by expectant mothers, a nesting instinct causes you to prioritize comfort. It encourages you to keep those you love close, and stay in a cozy, safe home. It can definitely make those long evenings feel a lot less dark. Pick up some blankets and throws in the still-ongoing January sales. Fire up your TV streaming services. Invite friends around for a night in and keep winter outside.

Appreciate The Beauty Of The Season

Yes, January has a lot to answer for. It’s cold, and you probably won’t get through it without at least one bout of illness. It begins with the effective end of the party season. You can feel vengeful towards it all you want, but look at the positives. It can also be one of the most beautiful months of the year. If it snows where you are this January, wrap up warm and get out in it.

Build a snowman. Throw snowballs – ideally at friends, as some strangers may not find it so funny. Relive your childhood a little bit. While winter may have its drawbacks, it’s an absolute gift for your Instagram account. It’s also a fantastic excuse to come back indoors and have the most luxurious hot chocolate you can conceive of. This is the month when you most need an endorphin rush – so get one!
