Travel can be an amazing thing. It can allow us to experience all sorts of new vistas and perspectives on the world, it can give us great opportunities to change up our regular routines and gain new insight into things, and it can also just be extremely fun and memorable.

Recently, however, huge numbers of people have found their travel plans disrupted, and so the idea of a “staycation” has undergone a major spike in popularity.

One form of “staycation” that could be well worth trying out, is taking a road trip to destinations a bit closer to home, whether that means buying a new car from Edmunds that’s suitable for a heroic journey, or just leaving next weekend with a few friends to see some local hotspots in more detail.

Discovering gems and treasures in your own backyard that you had been overlooking

One strange thing about people is that we all tend to take things for granted when we are surrounded by them constantly.

Largely for this reason, many people who live in globally admired tourist hotspots don’t even end up visiting the main tourist attractions.

Taking a road trip to somewhere a bit closer to home can help you to realise and remember just how much beauty there is in your own backyard and around the corner from your own home. Not only can this be really eye-opening and exciting, but it can also serve as a reminder to look for the treasures that hide in plain sight, on a day-to-day basis.

The opportunity to let go of your typical cares and concerns for a while

Travel can often be a great way of unwinding and letting go of your typical cares and concerns – but travelling further afield to destinations that are very different from the place you live in, can bring some of its own challenges, and can sometimes be a bit exhausting In its own right.

Embarking on a road trip closer to home helps you to relax and let your hair down, while still keeping things familiar enough that you likely won’t have to do too much planning or last-minute problem solving along the way.

In other words, it can be great for relaxing and de-stressing.

A great excuse to mix relaxation and your usual interests with new sights and experiences

One of the great things about going on a road trip close to home, is that it can allow you to mix new sights and experiences, with some of your usual interests and hobbies.

It may also be significantly easier to visit friends and relatives while you’ve got time off work, and to find ways of balancing the journey itself with some of the kinds of things you would normally like to do on a weekend.

When you’re in a more familiar setting, but still have plenty of new things to discover, you’ll just tend to have plenty of options to choose from.
