Usually when we think of castor oil, we think of that horrid tasting liquid that some of us were forced to drink when we were young. However not only does it offer benefits to our health it also offers some great benefits to our skin too. As castor oil is a cold pressed oil, it helps to draw moisture to the skin, as it acts as a humectant. This creates a protective barrier against moisture loss and environmental damage. This is quite a special oil and not one to be underestimated as it is easier to absorb into the skin, than any other plant oil. If you are a lover of beauty magazines, websites or blogs, you probably see one phrase in particular popping up a lot of the time: ‘glowing’. In fact, it has even wormed its way into the mainstream media, with regular magazines and newspapers snapping a good-looking celeb and captioning the photo ‘she’s simply glowing!’. So what exactly does this word mean? Well, it essentially boils down to the recipient of the term looking exceptionally healthy and happy – as though they take good care of themselves. It isn’t particularly related to style or fashion – or even makeup, really. It is more to do with a natural look – that ‘inner glow’, if you will. Felt yourself looking a bit on the drab side lately? Here are some ways you can easily ‘glow up’.

Take good care of your skin

Take a moment to examine your skincare routine. If it’s pretty much non-existent at the moment, this is where you could be going wrong. In your 20s, your skin is likely to be supple and pretty much wrinkle-free. You could even still be experiencing some symptoms of teenage skin, such as excess oil and acne. But unfortunately, reality does hit at some point, and soon your skin may lose its youthful appearance. As this is one of the keys to ‘glowing skin’, it is best to start an exfoliating/moisturizing routine sooner rather than later. Serum in particular is a great product for keeping skin soft and supple – just remember not to go too over the top with it, especially if you have oily skin. A little bit goes a long way. If, when you get older you decide that your skin is still lacking it’s mojo, you could always look into the possibility of having a facelift too.

Watch your diet

There is absolutely no rule that says that in order to look glowing, you have to exercise like crazy and be stick thin. Anyone of any shape can have that glowing look that shows they have been providing their body and mind with only good stuff. With that in mind, there’s nothing wrong with the occasional treat – after all, we’d all be pretty miserable without pizza, right?! But certain nuts, fruits and proteins can all play an integral role in keeping your skin, hair and eyes bright and shiny – thus giving you that dreamy healthy glow. Too much processed food and sugary soda can easily play havoc with your appearance as well as your general health, so just be mindful of what you are putting into your body.

Use makeup to your advantage

Even though skincare, hair care and general health are the best ways to make you look glowing, a little touch of makeup can really complete the look. Use it lightly – too much makeup can look ‘caked on’ and can ruin the whole effect, as well as clogging up your skin. Use a sheer foundation – even a tinted moisturizer, in fact – and give yourself a light dusting of bronzer if you are a little on the pale side. Investing in a good highlighter and learning how to use it will also transform your look; it reflects the light naturally, giving you a fresh, dewy look.

Everyone always tells us to act our age, but few ever say look your age! In fact, there is a lot of time and money plowed into the complete opposite. Getting your skin to look younger and healthier is a big deal for most women, with some going as far to go under the knife to achieve the result that they want. But if you not quite ready for such drastic action, what else can you do to defy the aging process and look a little below your actual age? Read on to find out.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Women’s Deep Cleansing Exfoliating Face Wash

Get your basics right

So, before you go onto any of the more complicated treatments for your face, you need to make sure that you are getting the basics correct. A lot of women make mistakes here that can serious cause the skin on their face and neck to age.

For example, if you are scrubbing your face with an exfoliating, or exfoliating cream, it’s probably time to stop. While it feels s great to have a super clean face. The only people that really need to regularly use an exfoliating scrubs are ones that have particularly oily skin.

Otherwise, all you are doing is damaging the skin unnecessarily. It’s much better to use a gentle moisturizing face wash instead. Remember you do not want to dry out your skin at all.

Some added daily help

Of course, getting a youthful glow is not all about how you wash your face, there are other things that you can do to promote healthy, taught skin as well.

For example, you may choose to use a night cream, which is a heavier moisturizer that is applied before you go to bed. This allows the cream the entire night to be absorbed, and do its work, giving you a more hydrating effect.

Hydration of the skin is vital for a youthful look, and night cream is not the only way to achieve this. In fact, there are some hyaluronic acid serums like the one from OZ Naturals, that are designed to refresh tired skin. They work because the hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water. Which helps the skin to appear younger, plumed up and healthy.

Ahava ‘Time To Clear’ Purifying Mud Mask

Some occasional extra help

As well as including a little added daily help in your skincare routine it can be a wise idea to invest in your face by doing a few spa treatments now and again. Not only as this luxurious and relaxing but you can choose ones that are particularly good for your face like a mud facial.

Don’t forget to take your makeup off

Lastly, one of the most damaging things we can do in your skincare routine is to leave your makeup on overnight. Not only is it unhygienic, because all the dirt from they day is being pressed right against your face. But the skin can’t breathe or rehydrate either. So it is vital that it comes off every time.

To do this make sure that you steer clear of normal soap and water. As the PH of the soap is usually too drying to be used on your face every day. Instead use a rotating brush or a gentle cleanser to get the desired result.
