Wedding traditions are lovely- the big white dress, the pretty flowers, the swapping of rings. But what if you’re not a traditional kind of person? Maybe you want to do things differently on your big day, or perhaps you just want to inject a little fun and personality into your wedding. This is the one day that’s all about you and your partner, so if you want to switch it up a bit then you should do so! Every person and couple is different, so there’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to weddings. One area that you can really have fun with is the wedding cake. Even if you’ve gone quite traditional everywhere else, you might choose to do things differently here. It’s a great talking point and definitely helps you to stand out from the crowd! Here are five different wedding cakes that are a little different from the norm.

Wilton Cupcakes and More Stand

Cupcake Tower

Instead of one huge tiered wedding cake, why not go for a tower of cupcakes instead? This can look really effective and is a lot easier to hand out than slicing and passing around slices of cut cake. The great thing about cupcakes if they’re likely to work out cheaper than a traditional wedding cake. You could even make them yourself if you’re good in the kitchen since they’re a lot less technical than a larger cake. You can find gorgeous cases that are perfect for weddings online, and look for fondant decorations and things to decorate with if you’re unsure about making the entire things from scratch.

Macaron Tower

French macarons are delicate meringues that are popular luxury desserts. They look absolutely stunning and are a nice light alternative to heavy wedding cakes. They can be made in just about any colour so are easy to match to your wedding colours too. This would be ideal for anyone going for a glamorous or romantic French theme, or just if you fancy doing something a little different.

Irish Destination Wedding Inspiration

Cheese Tower

Wedding cheese cake is becoming an increasingly popular concept. Instead of tiers of sponge, you have wheels of stacked cheeses which look incredible. Rather than a sweet slice of cake after your wedding meal, everyone can enjoy a sophisticated cheese board instead. It can add a rustic, refined feel to your wedding and is perfect if you and your guests are the foodie types. Instead of being decorated with flowers and icing, it can be dressed with fruit such as grapes and figs. Perfect visually, and a great alternative to a sweet dessert!

The Last Crumb of Cake

Novelty Cake

If you want something fun but still want a traditional sponge cake, why not go all out with the decoration? You could have half decorated with white icing, and when you spin it around the other half is novel and unusual like this. That way it looks great in formal pictures but gives your guests a laugh too! Alternatively, you could go with an unusual or funny cake topper which represents you and your partner.
