The first time you go on an airplane, it’s exciting. You look out of the window, study the world below and marvel at the wonder of physics that has allowed you to slip the surly bonds of earth.

The 10th time… well, let’s just say the novelty has worn off by that point.

Nevertheless, flying is a necessary evil if you want to see the world. While there are other options, they are not exactly the most practical. If you want a quick weekend away, a flight is going to take you to new climates in a quarter of the time a boat or train would. If you want to experience exotic locations, then a plane is pretty much your only option.

So, can hurtling through the atmosphere at 500mph ever be an enjoyable experience?

Cocovit Mini Facial Mist

Flight Plan #1: Take Care of Your Skin

We all know the horrors that the recycled air on airplanes can do to your skin. Dehydration becomes a huge problem, and you can emerge at your destination feeling tight and uncomfortable.

A good facial mist is an essential for your carry-on. Use it sparingly, or you risk causing more problems than you solve; once every hour should do. Follow it up with an oil-based moisturizer to help seal the moisture in. If you usually avoid oil-based products, this is one occasion when it would actually be beneficial.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay ‘Beoplay H5’ In-The-Ear Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

Flight Plan #2: Listen To Something Soothing

If you’re afraid of flying or just want a little time to find your Zen, then a flight is a great way of doing it. Pop in the headphones and block out what’s outside. As the likes of Dextro Audio will advise, bluetooth headphones are the best bet – fewer trailing wires means less mess. Most of us would choose to listen to music, but why not try a guided meditation?

A sleep mask is a good idea if you’re going to try this. Not only does a mask give you the ability to focus inwards and on the words you’re hearing, but it wards off fellow passengers who might be inclined to chat.

If you worry you’ll fall asleep, then painting your nails or indulging in adult coloring can be a good option to keep you busy while you listen.

Flight Plan #3: Landing Is Your Go Sign

Tables up and seat belts on, it’s time to land – a perfect chance to go through a quick refresh. The phase after you get off a plane is generally chaotic, passing through customs and grabbing luggage – so take a moment for yourself now.

Tie your hair back, so it doesn’t get in your way as you disembark. Massage the last of the moisturizer you’ve been religiously applying (see point one) and apply makeup if you so desire. Lipstick is a good choice if you want a splash of color without having to go through your whole routine. For long haul flights, consider donning sunglasses at this point.

Finally, as you near the ground, take ten deep breaths and straighten your posture. The journey is just beginning, and hopefully, you’re now going to be able to greet it as the very best version of you.
