Since I did a skincare update recently, I thought it only appropriate that I do a hair care update as well. Some of the products are strictly for maintaining my burgundy/ red, but others I can recommend as just good, solid products. It’s kind of a weird mix of stuff I wanted to try for fun, old faithfuls, one product I was gifted, and recommendations from stylists. All in all, I’m pretty happy with what my hair’s doing, but I’m not really married to most of it. For the products that I have to have, I’ll * them below.

Let’s start with shampoo. I was using Celeb Luxury Gem Lites Colorwash in Amber until I ran out. I love that it deposits color without being a dye, but it did seem to dry out my hair a bit. This was likely because I wasn’t following instructions… I should have been using it once a week as a refresh rather than with every wash. I’m now exclusively using Garnier Whole Blends Restoring Shampoo Maple Remedy. I love the smell and my hair is so soft. I’m really a fan of Garnier products, especially their whole blends stuff.

As for conditioner, I mostly use One ‘n Only Color Depositing Conditoner in burgundy. Then I use Biotera Sheer Illuminator Shiny Burgundy Tinted Moisture Treatment once a week. This is going to sound silly, but if I’m going to see my mom, who isn’t exactly partial to my red hair, I use L’oreal Paris Elvive L’Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Rapid Reviver Deep Conditioner to skip the color deposit and focus on the conditioning. I received it to try in an Influenster box and it definitely makes my hair feel silky. I’m just usually partial to more scented conditioners so when I run out, I’ll probably get the sister conditioner to my maple shampoo.

Post shower, I always use a leave-in conditioner. I’ve been using *Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioning Cream for Y E A R S… possibly over a decade. Even if I try something else, I always go back to it. I just discovered that it comes in maple too, so once I run out of the bottle I just got, I may try that and smell like a whole ass pancake. I’ve also been trying Beyond the Zone Protein Cocktail Leave In Treatment. It’s definitely not a replacement for a leave-in conditioner, but anything I can do to make my baby hair stronger is a plus.

Between washes, I swear by *Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo. I love the way is smells and it does a really good job of making my hair look clean and soft. For a little extra oomph, I sometimes add a little R+Co Women’s Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste. It’s great for adding a bit of texture, but I think it works better for me when my hair is short. I mostly use it for jazzing up my ponytails or if I really, probably, should have washed my hair and all other hope is lost.

As a bonus, please, please toss your old traditional hairbands and opt for hair coils or stretchy ‘no dent’ hair ties, especially if you rock a pony most days like I do. There are so many options to tie your hair back now that won’t cause breakage.

What are you using on your hair? Do you love it? What do you look for in hair care?
