When I worked at my law firm, we had a huge Christmas party annually. If memory serves, we alternated between having it at a big hotel and utilizing our own gorgeous reception/ break area (it was HUGE). My second Christmas working there, it was the hotel year. I took a friend of mine from college and we both wore velvet in Christmas colors. I felt incredibly elegant and had a total blast cutting a rug with my buddy and some of the higher-ups from the firm. The night ended with a bouncer at the Front Page begging me to please put my heels back on. A night well spent, if I do say so myself.
My new office is much smaller, a satellite office, if you will. Our sister office in Toronto joins in for celebrations but even with that, it’s less than 20 of us. Our holiday party this year is a dinner at our director’s home in DuPont Circle, which will be lovely, but I do miss the holiday party atmosphere of 350+ people who actually all act like a family- it truly was like working at a small high school.
The guys I work with now know I have a bit of a quirky streak in me. My Betsey Johnson shoe collection certainly has been commented on, but I don’t feel like I can totally let loose and wave my style flag around as much as I’d like to. I do love my leopard print, so I came up with two leopard styles for the holidays- one that I’d want to rock, and the other more subdued to match the environment where I work. The good news is these both also work for New Year’s Eve! Plus, you can definitely mix and match pieces from the two looks!
